Opening year 1988 y.
c. Yerevan Sergey Parajanov street

The museum of S. Parajanov was founded by resolution of the government in 1988, after the first exhibition of his Artworks at the State Museum of Armenian Folk Art. Initially, there were two possible buildings meant to house the Museum – one of them on one of the high streets in Yerevan, on Abovian street (currently, it is the place where the famous art gallery, souvenir shop and restaurant Dalan is located). The second possible place war the two-storied house – still being built – in the territory of Dzoragyugh ethnographic quarter. Parajanov personally visited both places and opted for the one in Dzoragyugh. However construction was delayed due to the earthquake of 1988 and the museum was opened in 1991

The basis of the museum collection constitute 1755 objects - assemblages, flat and three-dimensional collages, drawings, dolls and film sketches, furniture, own things, which were transformed from Tbilisi to Yerevan during his lifetime.

723 works are included in the museum's permanent exhibition. Some parts of the interior decoration of Parajanov's Tiflis house and Kiev apartment have been restored in two memorial rooms.

The permanent exhibition of the museum consists of 8 halls. The first hall features biographical details of the artist, family photographs and early works. Parajanov's dolls are mainly presented in the second hall. On the second floor, in shinning hall were presented mainly collages. The use of various materials and objects imparts to it a special charm and brilliance.

The next hall of the museum is the hall of films, where there are sketches made for Parajanov's films, stills from the film and objects that were used in the films.

The next hall presents Parajanov's prison works and two memorial rooms- the bedroom and the dining room, which display personal items from Parjanov”s Tiflis home.
